Examination for Olashore scholarship scheme holds May 2

OLASHORE International School (OIS), Osun State, is set to expand its scholarship scheme with another round of qualifying examination fixed for this weekend.

The scholarship examination and Olashore Special Open Day are scheduled to hold on Saturday May 2, at the school located along Oba Oladele way, Illoko-Ijesha, Osun State.

The scholarship offered is in two categories viz- academic scholarship and indigene scholarships.

While the academic scholarship is offered to best performing entrance test candidates in the year on tuition fees, the indigene scholarship is offered to students of the local government area (that is the school’s host local government).

Aside from the scholarship entrance examination, the school plans a series of open-day activities between May 1st and 3rd. The open day is meant to show case the school to interested and prospective parents and students; allow visitors take a tour of the school, as well as interact with members of staff and students during the open day exhibition.

To enrich the open day activities, a drama presentation “Trials of Brother Jero,” musical presentations and sports events are on the cards.

Principal of the school, Mr. Derek Smith, noted that interest in the school has significantly increased this year saying, “This is a reflection of the increasing demand by Nigerians for secondary school education in Nigeria that is of global standards, yet reflects a sense of value, discipline and best practices. We are committed to keep raising the standards and remaining top of the pack in Africa as far as secondary school education is concerned.

Another manifestation of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) and connecting with the local community is the OIS Teacher Training Programme, which was launched earlier this year.  The programme is a two-session training on improving the pedagogical skills of participants and reinforcing excellent teaching practices in the classrooms.

Participants are drawn from partner primary schools and public primary schools in rural areas, where opportunities for such training may be unreachable. The programme is expected to continue online with virtual interactions between facilitators and participants before the end of the 2016/17 academic session.
