Nigeria: UAC Long Vacation Classes Ends in Lagos

If giving back in appreciable quality and quantity to the society is what Corporate Social Responsibility is all about, this best describes the responses of students, parents and guardians to the just concluded free Long Vacation Weekend Classes organised by the UAC.
The UAC Free Weekend Classes initiative organised for students during the 2015 long vacation in the state recorded a resounding success as the large turn-out of students beats the imagination of many on the level of interests shown by students for higher education.
At the centres located at Lanre Awolokun Senior Secondary School, Gbagada and Newland Senior Secondary School, Ajegunle, students in the Senior Secondary Schools (SSS) who were the target took advantage of the free learning at they turned out in large numbers at the two centres.
Speaking during the rounding-off ceremony of the seven-week initiative, the Executive Director, Corporate Services, UAC Of Nigeria PLC, Mr Joe Dada said the company was encouraged by the growing popularity of the programme among students in the state. The Free Weekend Classes, which operates at no cost to the beneficiaries, operate through a Volunteer Scheme with UAC Managers as teachers.
He added that the initiative that commenced since 2008 was in line with the UAC's corporate tagline and deliberate initiative to stem the tide of increasing deterioration of the educational infrastructure and programmes in our country.
Dada called on other Nigerians, especially those with the right structures and institutions, "to join the march towards bringing an end to the deterioration among youths and the education sector.
