Nigeria-Marketing Edge honours Airtel's CEO, Segun Ogunsanya


Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Airtel Nigeria, Segun Ogunsanya, isamong top corporate CEOs and eminent industry experts that will be honoured at the National Marketing Stakeholders Summit and Brands and Advertising Excellence Award, organized by Marketing Edge, Nigeria’s leading brands and marketing publication.

The twin events scheduled to hold on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at the prestigious events place, Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos aim to celebrate the dynamism of marketers and advertising agencies that are making giant strides in the Nigerian economy.  Former Ekiti State governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, will chair the occasion.
The Summit, which has the theme “A Roadmap to Marketing in the Age of Global Oil Glut and Nigerian Advertising in a Generational Shift”, will hold in the morning while the awards take place in the evening.

Within his first 12 months, Mr. Ogunsanya led Airtel to reclaim market leadership in customer market share, also consolidating the company’s position in revenue market share with eyes firmly fixed on the number one position.

Under his watch, Airtel became famous for its efforts at transforming the mobile Internet landscape and democratization of telecoms and ICT, fully establishing the telco as Nigeria’s fastest growing data operator, according to data from industry regulator, Nigeria’s Communications Commission. This singular milestone achievement defines Mr. Ogunsanya’s efforts at transforming Airtel as the company gallantly migrated from a leading telecommunications services provider in the country to Nigeria’s number one mobile Internet Company.

Aside the several accolades that Airtel has won under Mr. Ogunsanya’s leadership, his transformational leadership style has also rubbed off positively on the organization. His penchant for building and empowering the leadership pipeline as well as creating a truly Nigerian organization with world class spirit has resulted in the appointment and promotion of several Nigerian talents into top management positions at Airtel. Under his watch, many exceptionally talented Nigerians have been appointed as members of management team in other Airtel operations scattered in 16 different countries across Africa.

Passionate about developing people and impacting positively on the Nigerian society, Mr. Ogunsanya personally drives the Airtel’s Corporate Social Responsibility agenda with an overriding objective of earning a social license for the Airtel brand. Other marketers and advertisers to be rewarded in the award which has several categories include Sir Chris Ogbechie and Sir Chris Parkes who will both receive the Lifetime Marketing Achievement Award. Sir Steve Omojafor who is the founder and former Chief Executive Officer of STB-McCann will receive the Brand Personality of the Decade Award while Chief Olu Falomo will bag the Outstanding Advertising Icon of the Decade.

Other categories are Outstanding Telecommunications Company of the Decade, Experiential Agencies of the Decade, Outdoor Agencies of the Decade, Outstanding Media Buying Agency of the Year, Marketing Personality of the Year, Outstanding Company of the Year, amongst other distinguished awards.


This year’s award however takes a unique step in honouring the achievements of the heroes of the industry by introducing the Posthumous Advertising Personality of the Decade which will be awarded to the first doyen of Nigerian advertising and former Managing Director and Owner of Lowe Lintas, late Mr. Sylvester I. Momeke alongside the owner of Eminent Communications Ltd, late Sesan Ogunro.
