Airtel staff support CSR commitment

AS part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Airtel Tanzania staff have dedicated various resources through fundraising to support and improve learning environment in several schools across the country.

Last weekend, through ‘Tunakujali progamme’, employees with Airtel Tanzania joined together on the final touches of renovating the kindergarten unit at Block 41 in Kinondoni Municipality in Dar es Salaam yesterday.
Presiding over the refurbishment of the kindergarten classroom, Airtel Tanzania Managing Director, Mr Sunil Colaso, said, “The act demonstrates our commitment towards providing a safe and conducive environment for both pupils and teachers.”
“Today Airtel employees, through our Airtel ‘Tunakujali’ programme, we continue with our mission to facilitate Kumbukumbu Primary school to have reliable and safe learning environment by refurbishing the kindergarten unit,” he said. The employees furthermore committed to complete the unit with enough furniture for 80 pupils as they were previously sitting on the floor.
‘Tunakujali’ is a CSR initiative by Airtel employees which offers support to communities around Airtel. “This is an occasion of great significance in many ways. It’s a fulfillment of Airtel’s promise upon the adoption of this school one year ago.
It is also important because this project speaks volumes of our commitment to education,” said Colaso. “We are pleased to have embarked on an initiate that will command smiles to more than 70 pupils that Kumbukumbu Nursery school has.
Airtel employees through ‘Tunakujali’ project have already supported four other schools around Tanzania so far and more to come,” he said. “We are hopeful that these facilities will make teaching exciting for the teachers, and learning, fun for the kids of these schools,” he said.
Colaso said and expressed his appreciation to Airtel employees and all who took part in this project to make it happen. Indeed, a journey of a thousand miles begins with a step.
