The State Government has called upon industries to integrate
corporate social responsibility (CSR) into their core business strategies to
contribute to economic development while improving the quality of life of their
workforce as well as the community and society at large.
The CSR activities should not only refer to compliance of human
rights standards, labour and social security measures but also to fight against
sustainable management of natural resources and climate change, Industries
Minister Debi Prasad Mishra said here on Wednesday.
The Minister was speaking at the Corporate Governance and CSR
Symposium 2015 organised by Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) here.
Speaking on the occasion, Director General, ICC, Rajeev Singh said
there has been a sea change in the way companies used to look at CSR. It has
now moved away from philanthropic to more professional activity.
“Over the last few years, an increasing number of companies
worldwide has started promoting their businesses through CSR strategies because
customers, investors and the public expect them to act in sustainable as well
as socially responsible manner. The ICC looks forward to work closely with
stakeholders of the sector for all-round development of the State,” Singh said.
Among others, Chief Secretary GC Pati, Chairman, OMC, RK Sharma
and Secretary, Steel and Mines Sanjiv Chopra also spoke.
