It was all joy for Dodoma
Makulu Primary School pupils and teachers on Thursday evening when the school
received modern toilet in effort to end the alarming shortage of the facility.
The
school with over 1,428 pupils is still in dire need of 55 more toilets even
after it received ten modern toilets constructed by the CRDB Bank under its
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.
Speaking
at the event to hand over the toilets to Dodoma Regional Administrative
Secretary (RAS), Rehema Madenge on behalf of the regional commissioner, CRDB
Bank Managing Director, Charles Kimei said the bank responded to the call for
help to ease the shortage of the facility as was highlighted in the local
media.
He
said the bank spent over 15 million in constructing the ultra-modern five
toilets for girls and five others for boys in a very short time.
“After
seeing the dilapidated state of the school toilets as was portrayed in various
pictures, the bank decided to come to the rescue of young Tanzanians” he said.
The
MD said every year the bank spends over Sh 1 billion on Corporate Social
Responsibility in health, education and environment sectors, adding that the
donation to the school fitted in all the three categories.
Speaking
at the event, Jacqueline Mwakalonge, the school head teacher said the school
which was built in 1954 still needs 28 toilets for boys and 37 for girls,
calling on other well wishers to chip in.
“CRDB
Bank donation is a big step towards rescuing our pupils from diseases. We
highly appreciate the help and also call on others to emulate them,” she said,
adding that through own initiatives, the school is currently building eight
latrines.
The
Dodoma Regional Administrative Secretary, Rehema Madenge thanked CRDB Bank for
the good effort to assist the needy children who several months ago were using
poor facilities.
